What is the Asia Cup?

Mogul is running a campaign in partnership with Microsoft that features Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition.

This campaign will be a 12 month long event and feature multiple qualifiers and playoffs that culminate into a major tournament at the end of the 12 months.

Throughout the campaign 36,500,000 Razer Silver and $5,000 USD is up for grabs.
The best part?!  All of the tournaments are free to enter!

What is the format for the qualifiers?

8 qualifiers will be played every season which advances 2 participants each to the season’s playoffs. Each qualifier will be a single elimination bracket, played on a saturday, and will be best of 1, until the round of 16, at which point matches will become best of 3.

Will the qualifiers be seeded with skill or placement in mind?

No, seeding will be randomized and carried out automatically at the start of the qualifier tournament.

What is the format for the playoffs?

  • 16 participants advanced from that season’s qualifiers will compete in a double elimination bracket.
  • Matches will take place on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Upper round 1 and 2, and lower round 1 through 3 will be best of 1.
  • Upper round 3 and 4, lower round 4 through 6, and the finals will be best of 3.
  • The top 4 players from the playoffs will advance to the year end majors held on April 26. (Tentative Date).

Will the playoffs be seeded?

Yes, we will seed the playoffs based on your placement and date of qualification.

Rather than seeding 9-16 linearly from 2nd place in Q1-Q8 we will randomize these to ensure that someone is not able to place in a specific position for a favorable round 1 pairing.

I’ve qualified for this season’s playoffs or the majors. Can I still compete in the qualifier tournaments to earn Razer Silver?

No, starting in season 2 we will no longer allow those who have qualified for the current  season’s playoffs or the end of year majors to continue competing in qualifier tournaments.

I’ve competed in last season’s playoffs, but I did not receive an invite to the majors. Can I still qualify for the playoffs this season?

Yes, as long as you do not have an invite already for the current season’s playoffs or the major, you are eligible for qualification to any of the playoffs.

The tournament is exclusive to competitors from:

Japan South Korea Australia New Zealand
Indonesia Thailand Singapore Malaysia
Vietnam Philippines India

What is the prize pool?

There is a total of $5,000USD and 36,500,000 Razer Silver as the prize pool for this campaign, the specific breakdown is as followed:

  • Each qualifier receives 140,000 Razer SIlver plus a variable Silver bounty for a total of 13,500,000 Razer SIlver.
  • Each playoff stage receives 1,500,000 Razer Silver for a total of 6,000,000 Razer Silver.
  • The major playoff receives a total of 10,000,000 Razer Silver and $5,000 USD cash.
  • Due to local laws, Japanese players who are eligible for cash winnings will receive additional Razer Silver instead of cash.
  • Content & Social media rewards also claim another 7,000,000 Razer Silver and will be awarded over the 12 months.

I see that the qualifier prizes changed, what happened?

We wanted to have a way that would allow competitors to compete as frequently as they wanted to earn an invite to the Playoffs. We also wanted to reward anyone with the skill to qualify early a little extra. The main thing was that we didn't want anyone to feel that they needed to intentionally not qualify in favor of earning more Silver.

With that goal, we introduce the qualifier bounty

What is the bounty?

A bounty, (or bonus reward) will be given to 1st and 2nd place winners of each qualifier tournament. The value of the bounty decreases with each new qualifier.

What do I get from the bounty?

More Silver of course! We're adding 500,000 Razer Silver to each season to ensure the bounty and the tournament placement rewards remain enticing.

Bounty 1st   (2nd)   Prize Total Reward

220,000

30,000   (20,000)

250,000   (240,000)

Qualifier 8

30,000   (20,000)

100,000   (90,000)

Why does the bounty decrease with each qualifier?

Two reasons:

  1. This introduces another layer of competition into the tournament; and that's super fun! The highest rewards comes with a first or second place victory in the earlier qualifiers, which is where most of the skilled players will be.
  2. Subsequently this opens up the later tournaments to be a bit friendlier to casual players, and gives them the opportunity to wrack up a few more rewards.

A little bit of something for everyone, and we love that!

What if I placed 3rd in qualifiers 1-7 and 1st in qualifier 8?

It's true, we aren't going to prevent this from happening, but we aren't going to incentivize it either. At most you can earn 170,000; which is less than half of the reward of earning 1st place in qualifier 1, but still it's nothing to scoff at either.

Since we knew some of you would run the numbers on this new reward system, we went ahead and did it for you. This assumes you have

1st Place + Bounty

+ 3rd in all previous qualifiers.

2nd Place + Bounty

+ 3rd in all previous qualifiers.
